The word 'fondue' is the feminine passive past participle of the French verb fondre, "to melt", used as a noun. (Source: Wikipedia)
I received this particular recipe from my host family while studying abroad in Dijon, France. We ate this fondue once a week around the dinner table accompanied with assorted breads and cured meats. The french version of fondue has a different consistency than that of the typical american version in that the cheese sinks to the bottom and the juices float to the top. As one dips bread into the pot to reach the cheese at the bottom, the bread soaks up the juices and then is encapsulated with the cheese.
